Nikon D850
– Insane Resolution and Speed
The Nikon D850 was highly anticipated when it was first released in 2017 due to its incredibly high resolution and impressive continuous shooting capabilities at 7 fps. Because it combines high resolution and high-speed shooting, this is an excellent camera for fashion photographers. Fashion shoots can be hectic, so you’ll need a camera that’s tough, fast, and simple to use. With the Nikon D850’s new and impressive features, you can always rely on producing high-quality fashion shoots. Even after a few years, the D850 is still frequently compared to the Sony A7R III and Nikon Z7.
In the DSLR Full-frame market, the Nikon D850 still doesn’t have many competitors, and Canon hasn’t shown any signs of releasing a better and newer model than the D850. The most significant challenge it faces is probably competition from mirrorless cameras, which are becoming increasingly popular. Loyal DSLR fans, on the other hand, will be impressed by the D850’s 45.7 MP full-frame CMOS sensor and exceptional autofocus system (152 focus points with 55 of them user-selectable).

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV
– The Top Performer
There’s no denying that the Canon EOS 5D series has been one of the most well-known DSLRs on the market for several years. The hype surrounding this full-frame, 30.4 MP CMOS sensor with Dual Pixel AF is justified. Canon polled users to find out what they wanted most from the 5D IV, and their feedback was heeded. Dynamic range, resolution, AF precision, and AF speed are the four most requested areas for improvement. Canon appeared to have addressed all of these critical points in the latest 5D IV series.
Canon has expanded the autofocus coverage area on the 5D IV, which is a big deal if you’re going to be shooting models all day. Quick AF is one of the most desired features for fashion photographers, and the 5D IV can deliver. The improved AF feature improves subject identification and face tracking with a 61-point AF system and Dual Pixel AF. Canon’s 5D Mark IV is also the company’s first full-frame camera with a continuous focus in Live View mode.
The build and overall handling are identical to its predecessors, with the exception that the screen is now touch-sensitive and has built-in WiFi. The Canon EOS 5D IV is a very versatile and powerful camera for fashion photographers in almost every way. When shooting fast-paced fashion shows, fashion editorials, and models, it is a remarkable upgrade that is well worth the investment.

Sony Alpha a7R III

If you could fit 42 megapixels, 10 frames per second continuous shooting, 4K recording, and a hybrid AF system into a stylish, compact full-frame mirrorless camera, the Sony A7R III would be the winner. This camera has almost everything a fashion photographer could want: speed, phenomenal quality, a lightweight design, image stabilization, and spectacular autofocus.
The a7R III is much faster than its predecessor, capable of shooting at 10 frames per second (compared to 5) and 8 frames per second in live view. The new version also has a larger buffer, which allows the user to shoot 28 uncompressed RAW files in a single burst. This is extremely useful during a fashion shoot because you’ll want high-quality photos of your models in a short amount of time. The new, fully-electronic shutter also has a low vibration, allowing you to shoot models discreetly without disturbing them with loud, distracting shutter sounds.
The a7R III’s autofocus system is excellent. With autofocus modes such as Flexible Spot, Wide Mode, Expand Flexible Spot, and an impressive Eye AF mode to choose from, you can be confident that your subject will be in focus every time.

If you’re considering upgrading to full-frame, keep in mind that Nikon recently released the Z lens mount, which is designed specifically for full-frame cameras. The mount opening on the Z lens is 11mm wider than that of the older F mount lenses, with the intention of making the most of the full-frame sensors and allowing maximum light to enter.
If you’re already a Nikon user, we highly recommend the Z6 if you want to upgrade to full-frame.
